JOB DESCRIPTION

We are currently searching for a Senior Accountant to join our Accounting team at SavaSeniorCare in our Regional Field Support Office located in Houston, TX.

Job Summary:

The incumbent provides essential day-to-day support to resolve accounting issues related to their area of responsibility and assigned field and field support groups. This position analyzes and researches variances in specific P&L accounts for its assigned field support structure and participates in the month-end close process. The position reviews general ledger activity and results of operation, performs balance sheet account reconciliations, prepares roll forward schedules or ad-hoc reports for management, and audits and assists on a variety of special projects. The incumbent is also responsible for Medicaid cost report preparation, for timely submission of same to governmental entities, and for participation in desk and field audits to provide the necessary information to ensure minimal adjustments.

Job Responsibilities:

Perform month-end close duties including the analysis of financial statement variances, system issues, and the preparation of various journal entries for accruals, adjustments, and reclasses.

Ensure that accounting transactions adhere to GAAP and accounting policy.

Propose resolutions on issues and provide succinct explanation on non-routine transactions or variances.

Prepare and distribute various reports and schedules to management monthly and on an as needed basis.

Prepare assigned detailed balance sheet account reconciliations and roll forward schedules and perform necessary research in order to resolve reconciling items in a timely manner.

Prepare schedules and roll forwards for the annual financial audit.

Review balance sheet reconciliations prepared by other staff to ensure that they are complete and reconciling items have been identified, addressed, and adequately supported.

Review bank reconciliations prepared by Staff Accountant I and II level employees and escalate unresolved reconciling items.

Analyze and compile data for actuarial analysis.

Support the field and other field support groups (such as operating facilities, operational management, Accounts Payable, or Reimbursement) regarding accounting and reporting requirements, the proper treatment of certain transactions, and the resolution of accounting and system issues.

Perform special projects as assigned. This assignment may include but is not limited to the coordination, facilitation, and implementation of these projects, which vary in timing and scope.

Provide training for Staff Accountant I and II level employees, monitor and prioritize their workflow, and ensure that they meet designated deadlines while adhering to accounting policies.

Become subject matter expert in assigned tasks and look for ways to improve process efficiency.

Assist, as an end user, in the upgrade and testing of the accounting software packages.

Analyze and gather financial and statistical data necessary to prepare Medicaid cost reports accurately and timely and to issue to Medicaid agencies for rate setting and program compliance. Coordinate retrieval of required audit documentation. Gather data to provide to outside contractors for outsourced Medicaid cost reports. Analyze any related issues for resolution. Communicate with appropriate parties concerning reimbursement issues.

Exercise independent judgment and thoroughly research issues before seeking guidance.

Propose possible solutions to issues with sound justification.

Qualifications:

Minimum BA/BS in Accounting or Finance.

Five (5) plus years' experience in a corporate or general accounting setting in a large company.

Knowledge and Skills:

The ideal candidate will have solid GAAP experience.

Ability to work well in a team environment as well as individually.

Proven ability to coordinate appropriate projects to ensure that critical deadlines and project objectives are met.

Well organized and detail oriented with ability to handle several projects simultaneously.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Strong listening and assessment skills. Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
